NHL Western Conference Champions
Quad 1 For Both Teams (1/1: 9 Games)
Top 30 at Top 75
12. Seton Hall Pirates (13-4, 5-0 Big East) at 74. St. John’s Red Storm (12-6, 1-4), 12 p.m. (Fox)
18. Ohio State Buckeyes (12-5, 2-4 Big Ten) at 40. Penn State Nittany Lions (12-5, 2-4), 12 p.m. (ESPNU)
7. Butler Bulldogs (15-2, 3-1 Big East) at 63. DePaul Blue Demons (12-5, 0-4), 1 p.m. (FSN)
11. Auburn Tigers (15-1, 3-1 SEC) at 49. Florida Gators (11-5, 3-1), 1:30 p.m. (CBS)
2. Kansas Jayhawks (13-3, 3-1 Big 12) at 53. Texas Longhorns (12-4, 2-2), 2 p.m. (ESPN)
19. Colorado Buffaloes (14-3, 3-1 Pac-12) at 15. Arizona Wildcats (12-5, 2-2), 2:30 p.m. (Fox)
21. Oregon Ducks (14-4, 3-2 Pac-12) at 45. Washington Huskies (12-6, 2-3), 3:45 p.m. (CBS)
13. Louisville Cardinals (14-3, NFC Championship Merchandise5-1 ACC) at 5. Duke Blue Devils (15-2, 5-1), 6 p.m. (ESPN)
9. Stanford Cardinal (15-2, 4-0 Pac-12) at 52. USC Trojans (14-3, 3-1), 6:30 p.m. (Pac-12 Networks National, Bay Area, & L.A.)
It’s a surprising mix of Quad 1 contests, with three Pac-12 games, a pair from the Big East, and one each from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, and SEC. Beyond the crucial ACC matchup between Duke and Louisville, two of the conference’s three near-NCAA locks, I’m most curious to see how Seton Hall responds off Wednesday’s huge win at Butler, particularly since St. John’s really needs a win for its at-large hopes. Texas is in a similar position as it welcomes Kansas to the Erwin Center. Butler, Auburn, and Oregon will all need to respond to midweek losses on the road, while Colorado can solidify its position as a Pac-12 contender by winning in Tucson for the first time as a conference member. Stanford, meanwhile, faces its most difficult road test in visiting USC, while Ohio State and Penn State both need to pull themselves out of recent skids.
Quad 2 For Host/Quad 1 For Visitor (2/1: 11 Games)
31–75 at Top 75
31. Purdue Boilermakers (10-7, 3-3 Big Ten) at 16. Maryland Terrapins (13-4, 3-3), 2 p.m. (ESPN2)
35. Marquette Golden Eagles (12-5, 2-3 Big East) at 48. Georgetown Hoyas (12-6, 2-3), 2 p.m. (FS1)
73. Clemson Tigers (9-7, 3-3 ACC) at 43. NC State Wolfpack (12-5, 3-3), 2 p.m. (ACC RSNs/ACCNX)
60. TCU Horned Frogs (12-4, 3-1 Big 12) at 58. Oklahoma Sooners (11-5, 2-2), 2 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
75. Missouri Tigers (9-7, 1-3 SEC) at 46. Alabama Crimson Tide (9-7, 2-2), 3:30 p.m. (SECN)
38. Kentucky Wildcats (12-4, 3-1 SEC) at 23. Arkansas Razorbacks (14-2, 3-1), 4 p.m. (ESPN)
44. Houston Cougars (13- real madrid jersey xs 4, 3-1 AAC) at 17. Wichita State Shockers (15-2, 3-1), 4 p.m. (ESPN2)
69. Iowa State Cyclones (8-8, 1-3 Big 12) at 32. Texas Tech Red Raiders (11-5, 2-2), 4 p.m. (ESPNU)
57. Georgia Bulldogs (11-5, 1-2 SEC) at 70. Mississippi State Bulldogs (10-6, 1-3), 8:30 p.m. (SECN)
68. Utah Utes (10-6, 1-3 Pac-12) at 65. Arizona State Sun Devils (10-7, 1-3), 9 p.m. (Pac-12 Networks National, Arizona, & Mountain)
33. BYU Cougars (14-5, 3-1 WCC) at 4. Gonzaga Bulldogs (19-1, 5-0), 10 p.m. (ESPN2)
Other than Kentucky-Arkansas, each of these contests features at least one bubble team in need of a quality win. Purdue, Houston, and BYU have the most to gain on Saturday, though the WCC’s Cougars will likely have to try to knock off Gonzaga without Yoeli Childs, still dealing with an injured finger. Purdue and Clemson face road tests as they look to build on recent huge home wins, while TCU can establish itself as a more serious at-large contender by winning in Norman. Georgia, Iowa State, Marquette, Missouri, and Utah really could use road victories to bolster their fading hopes. As for Houston, it will have to deal with a Wichita State team that will be playing angry at home following Thursday’s loss at Temple.
Quad 1 For Host/Quad 2 For Visitor (1/2: 4 Games)
Top 30 at 76–135
1. Baylor Bears (14-1, 4-0 Big 12) at 79. Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-7, 0-4), 12 p.m. (ESPN2)
14. Florida State Seminoles (15-2, 5-1 ACC) at 91. Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes (10-6, 2-4), 12 p.m. (ACCN)
8. West Virginia Mountaineers (14-2, 3-1 Big 12) at 103. Kansas State Wildcats (7-9, 0-4), 2 p.m. (ESPNU)
27. LSU Tigers (12-4, 4-0 SEC) at 111. Ole Miss Rebels (9-7, 0-3), 8 p.m. (ESPN2)
Four conference leaders/near-leaders hit the road to take on opponents they should be able to handle relatively easily. Then again, it is a January Saturday in conference play, so expect strange things from this quartet of games.
Quad 2 For Both Teams (2/2: 5 Games)
31–75 at 76–135
55. Oregon State Beavers (12-5, 2-3 Pac-12) at 108. Washington State Cougars (11-7, 2-3), 4 p.m. (Pac-12 Networks National, Oregon, & Washington)
37. Northern Iowa Panthers (15-2, 4-1 MVC) at 83. Bradley Braves (13-5, 4-1), 6 p.m. (ESPN2)
56. ETSU Buccaneers (16-3, 5-1 SoCon) at 105. Western Carolina Catamounts (12-4, 4-1), 7 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
71. Temple Owls (10-6, 2-3 AAC) at 84. SMU Mustangs (12-4, 2-2), 8 p.m. (ESPNU)
66. Virginia Cavaliers (11-5, 3-3 ACC) at 94. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-9, 3-4), 8 p.m. (ACCN)
Nestled among the mid-to-lower table power conference clashes are a pair of tantalizing mid-major matchups. The winner between UNI and Bradley will move a half-game up on Loyola Chicago Ramblers (who play Sunday) in the Valley race. Meanwhile, the victor in Cullowhee, N.C. will take sole possession of first in the SoCon following the Furman Paladins 66-52 loss to Wofford Terriers on Friday night.
Quad 3 For Host/Quad 1 For Visitor (3/1: 7 Games)
76–160 at Top 75
90. UConn Huskies (10-6) at 20. Villanova Wildcats (13-3), 12 p.m. (FS1)
78. Syracuse Orange (10-7, 3-3 ACC) at 34. Virginia Tech Hokies (13-4, 4-2), 12 p.m. (ACC RSNs/ACCNX)
128. St. Bonaventure Bonnies (12-5, 4-0 A 10) at 50. VCU Rams (12-5, 2-2), 2 p.m. (CBSSN)
144. Toledo RocketNFL Helmets s (9-8, 1-3 MAC) at 39. Akron Zips (14-3, 4-0), 2 p.m. (ESPN3)
86. Providence Friars (11-7, 4-1 Big East) at 30. Creighton Bluejays (13-5, 2-3), 4:30 p.m. (FS1)
139. Northwestern Wildcats (6-10, 1-5 Big Ten) at 36. Illinois Fighting Illini (12-5, 4-2), 5 p.m. (BTN)
104. Nevada Wolf Pack (11-7, 4-2 MW) at 3. San Diego State Aztecs (18-0, 7-0), 8 p.m. (CBSSN)
The first game on this list will once again be a Big East matchup next season, but for now, it’s an interesting mid-January distraction. While the home teams should all win in theory, Virginia Tech might struggle to sweep Syracuse, while St. Bonaventure is likely to test VCU in Richmond, as the Bonnies are off to a strong start in A 10 play. Providence needs toNBA Pet Gear keep winning in the Big East, but the Friars last won in Omaha in 2017. And while San Diego State needs more Mountain West teams to crack the NET Top 100, they’ll be more than willing to keep Nevada out of that group just a little bit longer.
Quad 3 For Host/Quad 2 For Visitor (3/2: 6 Gam luka doncic jerseys mens es)
76–160 at 76–135
120. North Carolina Tar Heels (8-8, 1-4 ACC) at 80. Pittsburgh Panthers (11-6, 2-4), 12 p.m. (ESPN)
112. South Carolina Gamecocks (9-7, 1-2 SEC) at 124. Texas A&M Aggies (8-7, 2-2), 1 p.m. (SECN)
96. North Texas Mean Green (10-8, 4-1 C-USA) at 87. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (13-4, 4-1), 5 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
154. Chattanooga Mocs (12-6, 3-2 SoCon) at 77. UNCG Spartans (14-5, 4-2), 7 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
126. Pacific Tigers (15-5, 3-1 WCC) at 89. Santa Clara Broncos (15-4, 2-2), 10 p.m. (WCC Network)
81. Utah State Aggies (14-5, 3-3 MW) at 119. Boise State Broncos (11-8, 3-4), 10 p.m. (ESPN2)
Amazingly, that UNC-Pitt game got the 12 p.m. ESPN nod over an all-Quad 1 game and the top-ranked team in the NET. Again, the mid-major contests here are the most interesting, with North Texas and Louisiana Tech looking to stay within touching distance of the C-USA-leading Charlotte 49ers and Chattanooga and UNCG looking to do the same against the SoCon leader that will also be determined today. Santa Clara, meanwhile, heads home after taking a 50-point L at Gonzaga on Thursday, so Pacific had better be prepared for pain. As for Utah State, it heads to Boise looking for a NET-boosting road win.
Quad 2 For Host/Quad 3 For Visitor (2/3: 4 Games)
31–75 at 136–240
61. Richmond Spiders (13-4, 3-1 A 10) at 159. George Mason Patriots (12-5, 1-3), 2:30 p.m. (NBCSN)
42. Saint Mary’s Gaels (15-4, 2-2 WCC) at 146. Pepperdine Waves (9-9, 2-2), 4 p.m. (CBSSN)
72. Tennessee Volunteers (10-6, 2-2 SEC) at 136. Vanderbilt Commodores (8-8, 0-3), 6 p.m. (SECN)
47. Indiana Hoosiers (13-4, 3-3 Big Ten) at 167. Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-10, 2-4), 7 p.m. (BTN)
It’s another four episodes of “Potential Bubble Trouble on the Road.” Saint Mary’s really needs to get itself above .500 in WCC play, while Indiana must avoid joining Purdue and Iowa in losing Big Ten games in Lincoln.
Quad 4 For Host/Quad 1 For Visitor (4/1: 2 Games)
161–353 at Top 75
179. La Salle Explorers (10-6, 1-3 A 10) at 62. Rhode Island Rams (11-5, 3-1), 12:30 p.m. (NBCSN)
309. Lipscomb Bisons (7-11, 2-3 ASU luka doncic slovenia jersey N) at 24. Liberty Flames (18-1, 4-0), 7 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
Remember when the Bisons and Flames played for an NCAA bid last March? Now Liberty is in the NET Top 250, while Lipscomb is one of four ASUN teams ranked in the metric’s bottom 50.
Quad 3 For Both Teams (3/3: 1 Game)
76–160 at 136–240
85. Indiana State Sycamores (10-6, 3-2 MVC) at 152. Valparaiso Crusaders (9-9, 2-3), 8 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
Indiana State has yet to win an MVC road game.
Quad 4 For Host/Quad 2 For Visitor (4/2: 2 Games)
161–353 at 76–135
209. Dartmouth Big Green (7-8) at 88. Harvard Crimson (11-4), 2 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
347. Incarnate Word Cardinals (4-12, 1-4 Southland) at 93. Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (14-3, 5-1), 5:30 p.m. (ESPN+ ($))
Last night, the Yale Bulldogs opened their Ivy League season with a 70-56 win over the Brown Bears. Tonight, it’s co-favorite Harvard’s turn. In the Southland, SFA will look to avoid the drama of a one-point decision, something the Lumberjacks have experienced in their last two games (a win and a loss).
